Zoka is a small business that makes comfortable apparel from second hand fabric. Having started in a ski town in 2022, the brand has had practicality top of mind since the beginning.

Along with ensuring the products are made well, durable and comfortable; designer and owner Estelle Mohr hand picks thrifted fabric for each garment. This means each product is recycled, and unique to you.

Starting the Brand

Zoka started while I was living in Fernie, BC. For years before, I had sold jewelry and bucket hats under my previous brand 'Pamplemousse'. After tree planting for the first time, a lot of things shifted in my life, and one of which was I finally had the courage to make and sell apparel.

At the time, life consisted of snowboarding and working, and hanging with friends and I wanted to make something that would compliment that lifestyle. So I started drafted a pattern from a sweater I had. Then I slowly tinkered with the design, making sure it would be comfortable for me when I got home, but could also be a practical layer in -30 degree days out on the hill.

That first season I made 25 sweatshirts and sold them to friends. I had such a blast, and now after three full seasons of production there have been 200+ Zoka fleeces made, and the brand has been sold in stores in British Columbia, Quebec and Ontario.

Here and now

Zoka currently operates out of Warkworth, Ontario. After doing many seasons of sweatshirts, we've tarted branching out to different products. This summer it's been t-shirts, shorts, tie-tops, dresses and vests.

There is an incredible amount of discarded fabric that is sitting, just waiting to be made into something new for someone to wear. Our work here is no where close to done.
